New Ronaldo Record - First to score 30+ goals for five consecutive seasons in La Liga

The records keep tumbling for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo. The latest he can now add to his lengthy list of accolades, achieved against Villarreal this weekend at the Santiago Bernabéu, was to become the first player in La Liga history to score 30+ goals for five straight seasons. His eternal rival at Barcelona, Lionel Messi, missed out on the chance to achieve the same feat last season, finishing up with 28 strikes, in what was ultimately a disappointing campaign for the Argentine idol.

Since Ronaldo arrived at Real Madrid from Manchester United for the 2009-10 campaign, only in that first season did he finish below the 30-goal mark, with a total of 26 goals in 29 La Liga outings.
During the following 2010-11 season he notched a total of 41 goals in La Liga and finished the campaign as the leading scorer in the competition. In 2011-12 he surpassed that with his personal record of 46 goals, but was remarkably overtaken by Messi, who finished the season with a competition record of 50 goals.


Firmly settled in at Real Madrid, during the 2012-13 campaign, Cristiano registered 34 goals in 34 games in La Liga, but was once more beaten to the 'Pichichi' award by Messi, who fired 46 goals. Last season however, he did take that coveted award, with 31 goals in 30 games.
So the next record in his sights? Well, despite a slightly barren spell in 2015 so far, with 13 games of the season remaining in La Liga, Cristiano Ronaldo must surely have his aim firmly fixed on beating that benchmark of 50 set by Lionel Messi. If the Portuguese star can keep firing on all cylinders, there's every chance he could do it too.
