Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo dethroned the 'It Ain't Me' singer
Instagram has a new ruler. Selena Gomez has officially been dethroned as the most followed person on Instagram as of Oct. 26. The 26-year-old singer lost the title to Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo currently has 144.6 million followers on Instagram, compared to Gomez’s 144.4 million.The news comes a little over a month after Gomez had revealed that she will be taking a break from social media. The ‘It Ain’t Me’ singer posted a photo on Sept. 23 addressing her time off: “Update: taking a social media break. Again.” said Gomez.
“As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us,” she wrote, “I am equally grateful to be able to step back an live my life present to the moment I have been given.” A couple of weeks after her last post Gomez checked herself into rehab to treat her issues with anxiety and depression.
The soccer player’s rise to the most followed person on Instagram comes after Ronaldo posted a photo of himself at the gym, which received over 6 million likes. Ronaldo’s account tends to be filled with shots of him and his Juventus teammates and of his family.
