Juventus will cut Ronaldo’s salary for the coronavirus

Italian soccer club Juventus could cut wages for its players due to the coronavirus pandemic. Clubs in Spain also contemplate similar measures.
All Italian Serie A clubs have agreed to cut wages due to the spread of the coronavirus and loss of income caused by the suspension of the League. The cut ranges between 20 and 30%, inform Italian media.
In this way, the star of the Juventus Cristiano Ronaldo will lose about $ 9.8 million in future wages, if the club cuts him 30%. This figure is largely due to his monstrous $ 35 million a year salary at Juventus, about $ 600,000 a week.
Ronaldo is the most commercialized player in the world and earns more in sponsorship contracts than Lionel Messi and Neymar. Since Italy was blocked by COVID-19, Ronaldo has sought refuge on his home island of Madeira.
In some cases, smaller and less financially secure clubs have been forced to lay off all their players and coaches temporarily to avoid falling into financial insolvency in the midst of the crisis.
In these conditions, at a meeting between representatives and the Italian Football Federation, the idea was raised that the players sacrifice their salaries in March to alleviate the financial situation. This proposal has yet to be ratified by both the Federation and the players union before it comes into force.
Football club Barcelona also studies similar measures. During the board meeting, Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu explained that the financial situation is complicated, but still reversible if the club takes steps to cut the percentages of the team’s highest-paid players.
Meanwhile, the players of the German club Borussia Monchengladbach They have already offered to pay their wages back to support the club.
On the other hand, former Arsenal duo Alex Song and Johann Djorou have been fired by the Swiss team FC Sion after he refused to accept a similar salary cut in order to protect the team’s financial solvency.
Players Paulo Dybala, Blaise Matuidi, Daniele Rugani, Ezequiel Garay, Paolo and Daniel Maldini, Wu Lei and other athletes tested positive for coronavirus. Throughout the world there have been more than 300,000 cases of infection, including more than 13,000 deaths. More than 90,000 people have recovered.
