Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo breaks 71-year-old La Liga record
The 29-year-old winger has often been in the shadows of Lionel Messi when it comes to records in Spain, but he finally has one for himself thanks to a stunning start to the campaign.
In seven La Liga outings, the Portuguese international has hit a whopping 15 goals, accumulating an average of 2.14 goals per game and surpassing Esteban Echevarria’s record of 14 goals set in 1943.
While his first of his two goals against Levante was a straightforward spot-kick, Ronaldo’s second proved worthy of writing his names in to the history books.
He picked up the on the left and in traditional fashion he cut inside two challenges with ease before firing an effort into the top corner from inside the area.
Ronaldo’s start to the season to some belies belief and with goals coming at this rate he may well look at breaking another prestigious record – Lionel Messi’s record 50 La Liga strikes in a single campaign.
It is little wonder why the Red Devils are so keen for him to return and that the United supporters were willing to fly over a ‘come home Ronaldo’ banner during his outing away at Villarreal.
Unfortunately for Old Trafford outfit, a dream return to Manchester has been comprehensively ruled out by Ronaldo’s super-agent Jorge Mendes therefore what’s left is to cherish the memories and appreciate how players of his ilk don’t come around so often.
