Cristiano Ronaldo coronavirus hotel story debunked as Juventus star isolates
Sorry, But Cristiano Ronaldo Has NOT Converted His Hotel Chain into Hospitals for Covid-19 Patients
Cristiano Ronaldo hit social media headlines on Sunday during the coronavirus crisis.
It was claimed Ronaldo was transforming a number of hotels he owns in Portugal into hospitals to help deal with the outbreak and offer use of the facilities free of charge as well as footing the bill for doctors and staff.
Spanish newspaper Marca published the claims, which quickly went viral and saw the Juventus superstar widely praised for the selfless gesture.
But the original article soon disappeared, only having been picked up by a number of other outlets and accounts around the world quick to heap praise on Ronaldo.
It has now emerged the report was false, although it is unclear exactly where the story emerged.
Ronaldo remains in quarantine in his Madeira mansion after Serie A action was suspended and team-mate Daniele Rugani tested positive for the virus.
Over the weekend, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar expressed concerns over the spread of coronavirus and urged people to follow World Health Organisation directives.
"The world is going through a very difficult moment which demands the utmost care and attention from all of us, Ronaldo wrote.
"I speak to you today not as a footballer player, but as a son, father, a human being concerned with the latest developments that is affecting the whole world.
"It is important we all follow the advice of WHO (World Health Organisation) and the governing bodies on how we handle this current situation.
"Protecting human life must come above any other interests.
"Protecting human life must come above any other interests.
"I would like to send my thoughts to everyone who has lost someone close to them, my solidarity to those who are fighting the virus, like my team-mate Daniele Rugani, and my continued support to the amazing health professionals putting their own lives at risk to help save others."
